Imagine the worst thing that has happened to you and your country. It may not be so hard to do since the economy took a nosedive. But at least we still have a physical country. When the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 was declared to the people of God, they were in exile. They had no home. They were banished to a strange new place, with no guarantee of prosperity or acceptance from other people.
But the prophet Jeremiah has a promise from God to deliver. God tells His people to live the best life they can while in exile: to settle down, to live in peace, to multiply, to seek the prosperity of city they were in, and to remember that God has not forgotten them. God has magnificent and prosperous plans for His people. He's got their future in His hands and He won't let them down.
This awesome promise in Jeremiah 29:11 is for us too! Sometimes, it's hard to hold onto hope when life keeps knocking us down. There are times when we feel exiled, isolated, alone, and struggling. But listen to the Word of God. In good times and especially in bad times, continue to live the best life you can, and remember that God has a plan for you, great and wonderful plans that will prosper you and give you the best future.
