Back to School Bible Verses

It's back to school time, and it can be exciting and challenging. It can also be overwhelming to get back in the  flow of school. We can remember that we can always rely on God. He won't do our homework for us or take our tests, but God has many promises in the Bible that can help us in school and in life.

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
God is always with us. We can be sure of that. We don't have to be afraid of new situations like a new school, harder classes, tests, or failing. We don't have to be discouraged if things don't go our way. We can be confident and strong because God is always with us.

Psalm 68:19 "Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens."
School isn't always easy. We can have problems with our assignments, and we can have problems with our friends. God has our back. We can tell Him anything, and He will carry the weight off our shoulders.

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
On top of carrying our burdens, God can give us rest. Being in school can be tiring, not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. We can find rest in God by coming or turning to Him.

Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Many students have anxiety. Do you ever dream about not being prepared for a test? Or getting lost in school? Or showing up to class in your pajamas (or worse)? Those are signs of anxiety, and anxiety can lead to stress. We have a God that listens to our prayers. We can pray to Him and tell Him anything and everything. We can put our problems in His hands. God can replace our anxiety and stress with peace. And it's a peace that will last. It's a peace that we'll have even though everything seems to be falling apart.

Isaiah 30:21 "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'"
Have you ever been lost? We can get lost in school in many ways. We can get lost when looking for classrooms. We can get lost when learning a new lesson. We can feel lost when we have friend troubles. The good news is that God is our guide. We can trust Him to guide us and lead us in the right direction.

And lastly, let us remember:

1 Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."

It doesn't matter what age you are, you can be a positive example and influence to your friends, peers, and other Christians. We just have to be careful and ask God to guide what we say and what we do, to help us love others the way Jesus loves them, to stand strong in our faith, and to live in purity or above the bad influences and peer pressure.

School is back in session, and it's nothing to worry about! We have a powerful God who loves us very much. He never leaves our side. He carries our problems and gives us rest. He replaces anxiety with peace. He listens to our prayers and guides our every way. You can turn to God anytime!
