Matthew 5:13-14 Salt & Light

Matthew 5:13-14 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."

While talking about what salt and light do, one child speaks up and asks, "What does that have to do with anything?"

What does it have to do with anything? Everything. A life without Jesus is like food without salt. It is like living in constant darkness.

As children of God, we are different. We're not like everybody else. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We can bring flavor to the lives of other people like salt flavors our food. We can illuminate the way for other people like light shines in the darkness. We can give them hope by telling them about Jesus. We can show them the love of God through acts of kindness.

Just like salt and light brings a positive difference to food and darkness, being salt and light for Jesus means becoming a positive difference, a life-changing influence to other people. How can you be salt and light to your friends and family?
